These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Ascend mobile app ("Ascend", "the app", "the service"). By downloading, accessing, or using Ascend, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you are under 18, you should review these Terms together with a parent or guardian before using the app.
Ascend connects to your school's student information system (Home Access Center, Skyward, Infinite Campus, or another system your district uses) to display your grades, assignments, schedule, and attendance in one place. Ascend also provides an optional AI-assisted Study Tool that can generate explanations from a photo of a problem, and a gamified progress system to encourage consistent study habits. Ascend is developed and operated independently and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to any school district or student information system provider.
You must have a valid account with your school's student information system to use Ascend's grade-tracking features. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs through your use of the app. If you are a minor, your parent or guardian is responsible for supervising your use of the app and any associated purchases.
Ascend offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions and a one-time purchase, sold exclusively through Apple's In-App Purchase system:
Pro tiers include everything in Plus, plus Ascend AI Pro (higher-accuracy AI routing) and, where offered, access to other apps published by the same developer.
Billing terms: Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Auto-renewing subscriptions automatically renew for the same duration and price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. Subscriptions and their pricing may be managed, or cancelled at any time, in your Apple ID account settings on your device (Settings → your name → Subscriptions) — cancellation must be done through Apple, not through Ascend directly. If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited once you purchase the corresponding subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with Apple's own refund policies; Ascend does not process refunds directly.
The AI Study Tool uses third-party AI models to generate explanations from photos or text you submit. AI-generated answers can occasionally be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. You are responsible for verifying any AI-generated answer against your own understanding and your teacher's guidance before relying on it, and you agree not to use the tool in a way that violates your school's academic integrity or honor code policies — the tool is intended to help you understand material, not to substitute for doing your own work where that is expected of you.

We reserve the right to limit or suspend access for accounts that show clear evidence of abuse (see the monthly usage safeguard described for the AI Study Tool, which exists specifically to distinguish normal student use from automated abuse).
Ascend relies on your school district's student information system to supply academic data, and on third-party AI providers (currently including Google's Gemini API and models accessed via OpenRouter) to power the Study Tool. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or uptime of these third-party systems, and any outage or change on their end may temporarily affect what Ascend can display or generate.
The Ascend app, its design, branding, and original content are the property of its developer. Your school's academic data remains your (and your school's) data — using Ascend to view it does not transfer any ownership to us. AI-generated explanations are provided for your personal study use.
You may stop using Ascend at any time by disconnecting your portal account and/or deleting the app. We may suspend or terminate access to the service for any account that violates these Terms, without affecting any subscription obligations already incurred through Apple.
Ascend is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that grade data retrieved from your school's portal will always be complete or up to date — that depends on the portal's own availability and accuracy. AI-generated content is provided for informational and study purposes only and is not guaranteed to be accurate.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ascend and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to reliance on AI-generated answers, inaccuracies in data retrieved from a third-party school portal, or any academic outcome connected to your use of the app.
We may update these Terms as the app evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the developer operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where superseded by Apple's own Licensed Application End User License Agreement where applicable.
